As the weather turns cooler and fall starts to show its colors in Katy, the gym will be filed with the sounds of sneakers squeaking and whistles blowing.

This can only mean one thing- basketball season is right around the corner. Head Girls basketball coach, Shanna Marhofer looks forward to the new season.

“We had such a great group of kids last year that really cared about each other and many of those same kids are returning.  There was no drama and I love that!  I believe this group will also be like that, said Marhofer.

After finishing 3rd in District last year and advancing to the playoffs, the team has several players returning.

“We have Brianna Nelson, Ella Robinson, Lyric Barr, Ashlynn Alexander, Kaylea Marhofer, and Nyla Wold returning. There is a lot of talent in that group of kids. They come with experience, determination, dedication, and a drive to succeed.  They will be a big part of our success this season,” said Marhofer.

Coach Marhofer also has several newcomers to the team in Samiah Nelson, Katy Brixey, Samantha Kettler, Sydney Lyons, Hailynn Obregon, Emma Lawler and Tarcy Maya.

“I am most looking forward to playing with my sister and and making it to the playoffs,” said Samiah Nelson.

Coach Marhofer feels the team’s strengths of, “wanting to win for each other, pushing the ball in transition, length….out rebounding teams and creating turnovers, being able to knock down 3s but also attack and get to the rim,” will help the team advance once again to earn that coveted call to the playoffs.
